Joe Cowie

OWNER & FOUNDER

“I’m driven to make my athletes the best version of themselves and have a ton of fun along the way.”

Joe found CrossFit in 2012 and it quickly became a passion for both him. Over the years, he has developed a love for gymnastics and Olympic weightlifting, and enjoyed competing in many local competitions. Joe is grateful that he’s had the chance to turn his dream into reality, and make a living out of his passion for fitness. As a coach, he loves introducing new people to CrossFit, watching them mature as athletes, and witnessing the positive impact it has on their lives. Joe and his wife Carol share a love of health and fitness and had a dream of bringing CrossFit to Cochrane. They opened their first “box,” aka. CrossFit gym, out of their home garage. Together with their 6 children, they’re proud to have CrossFit Cochrane as a place to bring health and fitness to the Cochrane community.

Carol Cowie

OWNER & FOUNDER

Carol has a passion for teaching people that it’s never too late to embark on their fitness journey. Carol is not a typical fitness coach, as she didn’t begin her personal fitness journey until her late twenties. Originally from Ireland, she struggled with the sedentary nature of life here compared to back home, and so started running at 27. She went on to run competitively for a number of years, and knows what it’s like to overcome self doubt and insecurities, surprising herself by qualifying for the Boston marathon 4 times and winning many local races. She discovered CrossFit in 2012, and was drawn to the community aspect of it, and the versatility of the athletes. Carol also has a passion for nutrition and helping members learn how to eat well and develop a balanced and healthy relationship with food.

Tyler Normandeau

COACH

Tyler has been active in sports his entire life, skating at 2 and hockey at 4 along with lacrosse and every other sport he could play in school. He later focused most of his competitive attention to hockey and snowboarding. After leaving Junior hockey he did the global gym attempt to stay fit but without his team and coach directing and motivating him as well as keeping me accountable. Tyler got bored quickly until he started CrossFit in 2009 and fell in love with the community and the feeling like he was training with a hockey team again.Tyler became a paramedic in 2003 after playing competitive hockey and worked as an advanced care paramedic with Calgary EMS from 2005 to 2015.
Tyler continues to play and coach hockey, his kids’ teams and a number of AA and AAA clinics as well as snowboarding as much as possible. Tyler took his CF Level 1 in 2014 and opened his own affiliate in 2015 where he coached full time until we closed August 2018. He is now very excited to get back to focusing on his own training and coaching with CrossFit Cochrane.
